The Power To Change

HP launched a global environmental campaign “POWER TO CHANGE” just few days ago. Being part of the development team from its agency, I am actually very proud that the team (both HP and my agency) has the common aim of creating a better environment.

I am not an environmentalist. But because of this project, I have started to pay more attention to what I usually do. This campaign encourages people to turn off their computer when they are done for the day. Exactly the action that I don’t usually practice everyday! Haha. Well, it’s different now! Hehe. I have turned off my work laptop diligently everyday. I feel relieved and “powerful” that I AM actually playing a part (albeit small) to help make the world a greener place.

While reading findings and reports for this project, I have also noticed that environmental initiatives are not very popular and well received in the Asia region. Therefore I really hope that with this campaign, the community will be more receptive with the idea of “protecting the world”.

Really, I really, truly believe that everyone has the POWER TO CHANGE, and make the world a greener place.

Hop over to our campaign website to find out why we are doing this. There are also tips to teach us how to purchase and use IT items responsibly.

Below are some printscreens of the site for a sneak peek. And how good the desktop widget looks on my wallpaper! *grin*

You can view global statistics and see how each country fares in terms of turn off rate. Pretty interesting!

Power To Change widget
This Power To Change widget is free for download. It tracks the idle time of your computer and calculates your contribution correspondingly in terms of C02 reduced, energy saved and cars off the roads.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead

You have the POWER TO CHANGE.

Toys!

I love and start to observe toys lately, thanks to some of my toy-craze colleagues.

Here’s some I love.

Kidrobot and Treeson

From top: Cannibal Funfair, Heroes Of Burgertown, Treeson

Treeson is so popular and cute that it has a Flickr group! I’m so going to get one next month!

Why bother having a resume?

If you’re remarkable, amazing or just plain spectacular, you probably shouldn’t have a resume at all.

I’m not sure whether I can truly believe in this argument. But I don’t mind giving it a try since everything is turning online now. In fact, I have submitted a totally unconventional resume before, only to be turned down because I didn’t have the design qualifications (they thought I have).

Nonetheless, this article by Seth Godin is a good read - an inspiring one. It has spurred me to really think of what I want to achieve with my website.

Geeky Map!

Cannot stand it! It’s too cool! It’s too brilliant! I am too geeky! *smile sheepishly*

So, how many applications you are using/ have used/ heard before?

Some News Indeed!

I read, I get amazed!

Vote! Vote! Vote! 8th March!

If you haven’t known about it yet, please leave after your work on Friday! We might not be able to overthrow BN, but at least we can make our voices heard when opposition has more support (ie seats in Parliament). Support DAP! We must stand together!

This is actually the first time I am having such strong feelings for the future of my country. True, there’s no perfect government but we need to have a fairer one. There have been too much injustices and embarrassment. Fulfil your responsibility as a Malaysian citizen.

P/S: I have not registered as a voter yet, because the “M” post office lady told me the registration closes at 5pm when it was my turn at 5.15pm. Mum and me reached post office at 4.45pm, went to the counter to ask them…and she didn’t inform us at that time. OK, maybe this is an extra effort, but COME ON!!!

Wow! You can have a date with Scarlett Johansson!
This is how you use your influence to do charity! A noble method yet a good chance to market/brand yourself.

Ginsengs, ginsengs, ginsengs!
I found the new Eu Yan Sang Wisconsin American Ginseng website (余仁生美国威斯康辛州花旗参) through Zaobao. It’s a pleasant surprise to see a traditional chinese medicine company using online channel to do marketing. Hope it creates more rapport with the younger generation. I for one, is introduced to the brand since young by mum. Chicken essence, ginseng tea, honey, bird’s nest, soup materials, Bak Foong pills and what-nots! And now, I am buying my own Eu Yan Sang products in Singapore (not a premium member yet though, can’t accumulate enough purchase at one go *grin*).

Yea… I guess now you all know how many different websites I surf every night. Hehe.

Signing off.
