I don’t consider myself a video-editing veteran, but I think I am fairly well verse when it comes to codecs and editing videos (ok, I was, my skills are not as good as 5uperpig *grin*).

Yesterday was the first time I edited a VOB format video (thanks to the “10min-less-than-100MB” policy from Youtube). I knew from zetallite that VOB is actually the same format as MPG, so renaming the extension will do the trick in Premiere. So I happily renamed, happily cut the clip into half, and happily rendered to flv, and happily uploaded to Youtube. Then to my utmost horror, the audio looped by itself when I viewed on Youtube today!

I nearly fainted. Frantically, I do a quick google and found an explanation and solution to it. Basically Premiere doesn’t support AC3 audio format, and it will loop the first few seconds. I did not use the software that the author recommended, because there’s no trial version. I did another search and found this forum thread instead, and downloaded Womble’s MPEG Video Wizard DVD. It offers a free trial of 30 days and you can convert the AC3 audio format to MPEG2 or PCM. I did that conversion and edited the clip successfully in Premiere.

Just thought I would like to share this little piece of knowledge. Hope you all will find it useful. Or do you all have any other ways to quickly edit a VOB? Feel free to post your comments!

This year’s New Year’s Eve, celebration is definitely not what I was doing, and definitely not what I would like to repeat doing in future years. It is work-related. I’ve disappointed the people I love because I broke my promise. I had an emotional breakdown. While people are celebrating counting down outside, fireworks shooting up into the sky, I was in the toilet, tears streaming, wondering exactly what the hell I was doing.

But come 1 Jan 2008, I was glad that things turned out fine. The people I love supported me. The work went on smoothly (or at least that’s what I would like to be convinced of). I managed to make it up to SuCKeR and the close friends that are dear to me. And most importantly, I went to Orchard Road and soaked myself in the happiness of new year.

This year, I want to do so much more for myself and my friends. I realised that friends are still an important part of my life. Disappointing the people I love is really something that I will avoid. I want to learn new skills. I want to go back home more often to visit my parents. I want to achieve targets together with SuCKeR. I want to pamper myself more and enjoy life (not that I don’t have a life, hehe).

Here’s a very sincere wish to all my beloved friends, that your 2008 will be filled with happiness and strength to face any challenges. Remember that I will always be here for you all, just like how you all are there for me.
