About Me

Good women smile in trouble,
gather strength from stress,
and grow brave by reflection and prayers.

Hi, MK here! A Malaysian born Chinese, Singaporean PR.

How and why do I blog?
I started to read blogs when I was in my varsity second year. And then my friend got his own website hosted because we needed to create the Hwa Chong ASEAN2000 community. He started a blog as well and I was fascinated by his ability to create something for himself. I wanted to do the same thing, but at that time, I knew nothing about html, coding, web designing etc. So I signed up with Blogger to learn more about it. I used Blogger templates and tweaked the design myself. Slowly, I knew bits and pieces of HTML coding.

In Feb 2006, I finally plucked up the courage to host a domain for myself, and named it ishimmer.net because ’shimmer’ is my nickname and ‘i’ simply means ME! =)

Through my blog, I want to share my daily experience, musings and the stuff I appreciate with my friends. Of late, it has also served as a platform for me to reassure myself and regain confidence. Most importantly, I want to keep a memory of myself, of what I have been doing throughout my life, and to be able to share it with my family in the future.

Some stuff about me (read it only if you feel bored!)
I love beautiful things. Art, design, photography, flowers, sceneries, jewellery, textures, colours, buildings, people, patterns.

I love reading, but I only pick a few genres. Chick lit, classics, biographies, inspirational, non-fictions. I like Chinese literatures. Some of the authors I fancy are Jeffrey Archer, Paulo Coelho and of course my favourite childhood authors, Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl! I love James Herriot, who had produced books with heartwarming stories of practicing as a veterinarian in Scotland.

I am naturally an active girl. I like playing sports (table tennis, netball, volleyball). I like to swim, but only when the pool is not packed with other swimmers. Swimming is sort of like a therapy for me - it clears up my mind, and I can focus and think through things without any disturbance. But then, it’s been a long time since I jump into the pool…

Recently, I grow to enjoy cooking. I feel excited whenever I want to prepare meals for those whom I care for. Talk about food! I love my mum’s home-cooked dishes, including my Indian mum’s cooking! Pasta, Chinese dishes and Japanese dishes. Sweets, chocolates, ice-creams, yoghurts and any creamy food are my favourites too. My favourite coffee place is Coffee Bean - hanging out with my favourite friends and beloved ‘family members’ calms my nerves!

I enjoy doing crafts. Cross-stitching and collaging. Sometimes I make cards for my friends too!

Basically, I strive to live a happy and contented life.
